Scythed chariots started to fall out of use after Alexander the Great's demonstration of how vulnerable they are in a frontal assault in the battle of Gaugamela (331 BC), however the Romans encountered scythed chariots as late as 47BC at the battle of Zela, where they defeated them using caltrops, and there are even indications that they may have been used as late as 22AD by nomadic North African tribes.
