Why Lolita (orca) was never set free
This is a discussion about Lolita (1964/1967 – August 18, 2023), also known as Tokitae, who was a female captive orca from L Pod of the southern resident community. She had been in captivity at the Miami Seaquarium in the United States since September 24, 1970. Lolita was the second-oldest orca in captivity after Corky at SeaWorld San Diego. She dies before ever making it to freedom, although this was planned.
