Josef Schantl was an Austrian horn player who performed for the premieres of Brahms' 2nd and 3rd Symphony, and Bruckner's 3rd and 8th Symphony. He was an avid composer of Austrian hunting music for horn quartet. These two examples make fine brass quintet fanfares, with some additional spice added by the percussion.
