Reason For Writing
Abraham Verghese is an American physician, author, and Professor of the Theory and Practice of Medicine, as well as the Vice Chair of Education at Stanford University Medical School. He has written four highly successful books, comprising two memoirs and two novels. In 2011, he gained membership in the Institute of Medicine. During one of the 2023 panels at the SVWC, Abraham Verghese spoke on his experiences caring for those suffering from AIDS, and how it became a significant motivation to embark on a writing journey.
