The City of Augusta, through a dedicated SPLOST 7 funded project, is commissioning the creation of three large-scale sculptures at 3 gateways to the city. In 2015, voters of Richmond County approved SPLOST 7 (Special Local Option Sales Tax), which included funding for three large-scale sculptures to be constructed at key “gateways” into the City of Augusta. After setbacks in 2017, a national call for artists was reissued for the first sculpture’s new location Sand Bar Ferry Road.

In total, 3 sculptures will be commissioned by the City of Augusta. They will be placed in the “gateways” as a “welcome” for visitors and residents alike who are entering the city and will be seen on a daily basis.

Sculpture designs include:
“Lucy’s Garden” by Wesley L. Stewart & Colleen Beyer Stewart of September Art Studios & Metal Specialists of Augusta, GA

“Tempo” by Marc Moulton & Pam Reynolds of Outdoor Art located in Statesboro Georgia

“Welcome with a Wave” by Eric Randall Morris of ASDSKY base in Atlanta, Georgia

“Field of Magnolias” by Gregory Johnson of Gregory Johnson Art located in Gainesville, GA

The first of these public art installations is in the final selection process and the Public Art Advisory Panel, the Augusta Commission and the Greater Augusta Arts Council want Augusta Citizen's feedback! Which of these 4 amazing sculptures best represents our community?

These maquettes are on display, along with a physical survey box, at the Augusta Richmond County Municipal Building located at 535 Telfair St. Augusta, Ga 30901 until Friday, April 5, 2024.
