This week we are going to talk about a book that all business owners should read.

What’s up Fish Fans! My name is Marcus. You’re watching Marketing Madness, the Blue Fish vlog!
If there is one book that I think that all aspiring or actual business owners should read it is the E-Myth by Michael Gerber. I think it is so important that I seem to have given away my last copy and need to order another handful. Regardless, you should be able to find it on Amazon fairly easily as it is always one of the top books in the Business category.
The basic premise is that most people that go into business are really good at their craft. Michael uses the example of a baker that feels overwhelmed because not only does she have to handle the sales, marketing, accounting, legal, and all of the other hats that go with running a business. She also has to bake the pies, create new products, and manage the few employees she manages to keep employed.
Michael would point out that this is effectively owning your job not running a business. He then spends some time explaining how to get out of this cycle. He goes on and discusses the reasons why this is important. That if you are still doing most of the work then the business has to have you and this makes it very very difficult for you to scale, and/or sell the business.
Now, selling your business may be something that you want to do, or maybe not. But either way, no one can argue that most of us start businesses because we want freedom. It may be something as simple as wanting to be able to leave early to go pick up your kids from school. Or it may be because you want to travel and not have to worry about whether your business will still exist when you get back.
Michael also spends quite some time talking about setting up processes and procedures so that your employees begin to understand how you would handle certain situations. It makes it easier for them to operate as you would want them to without actually needing you.
I highly recommend this book. So if you have not picked up a copy and read it then I strongly suggest that you do so.
Well, that’s a wrap for this week! I want to thank you for checking in. Make sure to hit that like button. And if you have any questions or comments leave them down below.
