Chimaira's unreleased song : STAYS THE SAME
From the Impossibility Of Reason recording sessions this song is a bit controversial amoung fans and even within the band itself (or it was at first). While I do agree that it's tonally very different from the rest of the album and would kind of clash with the rest of the songs (masterpiece album BTW).
When that first riff kicks in during the documentary I was hooked immidiatly it's heavy as fuck and super groovy, the chorus is catchy and hits hard and the vocals spoke to me on a pretty personnal level that I could painfully identify with. For so long I wished a full version existed then one day to my suprise having the documentary DVD menu just playing for a long time....Hidden track....Stays The Same.... I went nuts.
For anyone who didn't get the ''SORRY ROB'' (Rob Arnold) bit and Jim busting his balls, he did a great video called ''I can't believe I made this video'' about the song and how he does not like it. Respecfully let me argue his points.
The solo does not suck : Yes it might not be a technical prowess or amazing story telling like Lazarus but it fits the song and sounds great. I challenge you to blast it in your car while driving and you tell me how it just hits great with that build up at the beginning and the small ripping faster part. Not a great solo to watch but it sounds great and fits the song
The opening riff is HEAVY and hits hard. like they say ''simple is heavy''
I don't think Nu-Metal neccessarily means going lighter or wimping out to get more air play. To me the main thing about at least the great Nu-Metal songs is bouce and groove and this songs really gets your head into that slow headbang. Yeah I know a lot of those bands turned into dicks that would rather go to a fashion show than a Deicide show and also got into a heavy band not wanting to be heavy... Those that where real metal fans and added that bouce and groove made some pretty killer songs.
So am I glad Chimaira stayed heavy as FUCk...of course but if this song would of come out in 2024 it could be have been a great single to release by itself since it kind of does not fit in with the rest of the catalogue.
