Repairing FPV drones without any experience... - iFlight ProTek35HD - EP#6: DRONEHACK strikes again!
In this series I will be taking you on on journey through the process of purchasing, setting up and flying my first proper FPV drone. I have chosen the iFlight ProTek35HD cinewhoop drone as the first victim. Sit down, relax and come learn how to get started with FPV in Australia.
On my 16th flight I was attempting to fly inside and crashed and cracked the frame. The frame got in the way of the prop on Motor 1 and I didn't realise before trying to throttle up... Once I had done that I could smell 'electrical burning' and notice smoke wafting from Motor 1. I had inadvertently burnt out Motor 1 and was going to need to replace it to get this quad airborne again.
When trying to buy replacement motors I realised that the motors that had come on my ProTek35HD build originally were no longer available which meant not only did I need to buy 4 motors instead of 1, I would also need to install 4 motors instead of one. Quadrupling my work load....👎🏼👎🏼
I spent about 2 weeks learning to solder again and replacing the motors slowly so I didn't make any silly mistakes. Nonetheless, I was not successful in fully repairing the ProTek35HD back to its former air-worthiness. I can say the repair side of FPV is the biggest hurdle for me with trying to find time and resources to fix drones, instead of buying new drones and paying someone to repair. I definitely prefer flying and editing content.
Bare with me... I am a total novice to FPV but what I am trying to demonstrate what you will need to do if you have been thinking about getting into FPV and just wondered, "Where do I start?". Hopefully this helps!
The iFlight ProTek35HD will be back at some stage after I troubleshoot what is causing the issues with Motor 4. I look forward to sharing my next adventures with you with a much smaller comrade iFlight ProTek25HD Pusher.
