We are constantly seeing posts across multiple forums referring to sensor glass "fungus". While it may look like fungus, in reality the surface layer of the glass is actually oxidizing and corroding-similar to how steel rusts. High humidity is one of the main factors determining how long glass will take to corrode. Certain types of glass will corrode quickly while other types will last forever without corroding. Understanding what causes glass to corrode can ensure you keep your camera and lenses protected.
We offer replacement options for the OEM Hot Mirror on Blackmagic Cameras. Our filters have 16 layers of oxygen resistant coatings to prevent corrosion. On top of that our Kolari Upgraded Hot Mirror will block all infrared light solving color issues present in blackmagic cameras.
For the Leica users we offer a service to replace the original hot mirror which is extremely prone to corrosion with either Schott BG39 or BG61. Schott BG61 will last indefinitely without oxidizing while Schott BG39 can become susceptible to corrosion if the coatings are scratched or worn off. That being said we offer a lifetime guarantee against corrosion for this service. Both filters feature anti-reflective and anti-smudge coatings. We can also replace the filter with our full-spectrum glass making it IR and UV compatible.
