A demonstration of a practice mute for violin or fiddle, plus a standard (round) mute.
Also, a couple homemade "folk" mutes: you can make a fairly decent mute in a pinch from a clothespin or a dollar bill.
Most mutes take the violin volume down a notch. They are great for practicing without disturbing your family and friends. They come in all shapes and sizes and materials, and they affect the tone accordingly.
