To run a manual regen (regeneration) on an International truck, follow these steps:

Prerequisites:

• Check for Fault Codes: Ensure there are no active fault codes that could prevent a regen. Use the dashboard or a diagnostic tool to check for codes.
• Engine Conditions: The engine must be at operating temperature. The truck should be parked in a safe area with the parking brake engaged, and the transmission should be in neutral.

Steps to Run a Manual Regen:

1. Park the Truck:
• Ensure the truck is parked on a flat surface.
• Engage the parking brake and make sure the transmission is in neutral.
2. Engine at Operating Temperature:
• Let the engine run until it reaches operating temperature if it’s not already there.
3. Check Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Level:
• Ensure the DEF tank is adequately filled, as a low DEF level can prevent regeneration.
4. Locate the Regen Switch:
• Identify the “Regen” or “DPF” switch/button on your dashboard. This switch is specifically for initiating a manual regen.
5. Initiate Regen:
• Press and Hold the Regen Button: Press and hold the regen button for a few seconds (usually 5-10 seconds) until the regen process starts. Some trucks may have an indicator light that will begin flashing to show that the regen is in progress.
• Monitor the Process: The regen process can take anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the level of soot in the DPF. During this time, the engine RPM may increase, and the exhaust system will get hot.
6. Complete the Regen:
• The regen process is complete when the engine returns to normal idle speed and any warning lights related to the DPF go off.
• Some trucks may display a message or indicator that the regen has successfully completed.
7. Post-Regen Check:
• After the regen, it’s a good idea to check the system for any remaining fault codes and ensure the truck is running smoothly.

Note:

• Automatic Regen: If your truck is set up for automatic regen, it may perform this process on its own when conditions are met. However, manual regen is necessary when the automatic process is interrupted or when the soot level becomes too high.

If the manual regen does not initiate or complete successfully, there may be an underlying issue with the DPF system or related components, and it may require professional diagnosis.
