A Sioux Bow and Arrows
In this episode of wildwestfaces we take a look at a Sioux Bow and Arrows collected in 1848 from Fort Snelling in Minnesota by army surgeon Nathan Sturges Jarvis. Jarvis was posted to many Forts in his career and as he was an avid collector of native American artifacts he took every opportunity to acquire these rare items. Most of the articles he collected now reside in museums across America.
This bow and arrow is made from many different materials, one being stroud cloth, the cloth was an iconic trade fabric that was traded for furs and buffalo hides for over 200 years, we can see many old photographs of native Americans and they usually have some article that is made from stroud cloth.
