This timber bridge in California was scheduled for demolition. We did a single pile repair as a demo for Caltrans. After observing how efficiently the repairs could be performed, Caltrans decided to save the bridge and repair all piles. The steps of the repair included:
1. Cutting 8-ft long pieces from a 4-ft wide roll of PileMedic
2. Applying epoxy tack coat to the second half of the laminate
3. Wrap the laminate around the pile to create a 2-ply shell
4. Inject the annular space with QuakeBond 320LV low viscosity resin
5. Steps were repeated to do additional 4-ft jackets
6. The completed repair was painted brown
The low viscosity resin fills all the voids and cracks of the deteriorated timber pile, making the pile much stronger than the original undamaged pile!
