This video will clear up the doubts of where should you install a PCIe Gen4 NVME SSD on ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus Motherboard.
There are two M.2 slots on this motherboard.
M.2_1 - This one is closer to the CPU socket but doesn't come with a heatsink.
M.2_2 - This is near to the chipset and has ASUS's heatsink .
SSD in use here is Seagate FireCuda 1TB without heatsink.

There is another version out there that comes with a heatsink pre-installed.

Video Summary:
There is a difference in M.2 slots of this motherboard. Owner's manual says that both are PCIe Gen 4 x4 but speed tests show that the one closer to CPU is faster than the one near to the chipset.
Another observation here is that ASUS's heatsink works very well in maintaining the temperatures.
But I am angry on ASUS, this heatsink should have been interchangeable with top slot, which it isn't. That means I will have to return this SSD and go for the one that comes with pre-installed heatsink. Worse thing is, it isn't mentioned anywhere on the box, website or manual.
Hope this video will help you make an informative decision.
Note:
I was manually refreshing the CrystalDiskInfo64 window every second to capture the temperature change.
