You take your dog to a trainer. You trust them. You hope they will teach your dog to sit, stay, and walk nicely on a leash.
But instead, they use shock collars, choke chains, and scary punishments. Your dog yelps, cowers, and gets scared of you, the person they love most. That’s not training. That’s abuse.
Right now, in New Jersey, anyone can call themselves a dog trainer. No rules. No license. No way to stop bad trainers from hurting dogs.
That’s why we need Senate Bill S3814. This bill would create a Dog Training Licensing Board—a group of experts who make sure trainers use safe, kind, and science-backed methods (no pain, no fear, no harm).
🚨 The Problem: Anyone Can Be a Dog Trainer
Right now, there are no laws to stop bad trainers.
Some trainers lie about their skills and use harmful techniques.
Dogs get hurt, scared, or even killed because of bad training.
People pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to trainers who don’t know what they’re doing.
🛑 The Solution: A License for Trainers
Just like doctors and teachers need a license, dog trainers should, too!
The S3814 bill would:
✅ Create rules for trainers to follow.
✅ Ban cruel training methods like shock collars.
✅ Require trainers to prove they know what they’re doing.
✅ Let pet parents report bad trainers and hold them accountable.
✅ Protect dogs and families from fraud and abuse.
🐾 Dogs Deserve Better!
Your dog is family. They trust you to keep them safe. This law would make sure all trainers use kind, humane training methods based on science—not fear.
But we need your help to pass it!
