The International Criminal Court (ICC) was established under the Rome Statute, 1998. This court deals with genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression. The parties to this law, the UN Security Council or the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court can initiate proceedings to try any crime and since Bangladesh is a party to the Rome Statute, 1998, this court can try any genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crimes of aggression committed in or through Bangladesh. The question is whether the killings, injustices, tortures, arrests that have occurred as a result of this student movement as an independent country can be tried by the International Criminal Court and if so, what is the process? Is it possible for Sheikh Hasina to be tried in the International Criminal Court, if so, how and what could be the result.
