Quad-Split ScreenRacing Between the Alpine, Fulvia, and Mini X2
A four way split screen race between the 1960's rally racing favorites: Renault Alpine, Lancia Fulvia, and two Mini Coopers. The video starts by showing the course using the Alpine's driver point of view (POV). Next the race is shown from a quad-split-screen showing the exterior POV's for all four vehicles. Then we focus on the very close race between first and second place in a two way split screen. Still the video is quite short, under five minutes. Speeds on the Kenya, Crocodile Point, course get up around 80 miles per hour, on this all dirt track, so quite an exciting race.
The car setups are interesting with quite a difference in some vehicles.

The Fulvia and Mini's are close in setup but the Mini uses a slightly softer suspension to better handle bumps. The rough dirt course greatest handling problem seems to be the bumps. With the Mini's short wheelbase bumps could easily cause the car to hop front to back or even go airborne. When this is happening there is virtually no steering. So it was necessary to compromise on cornering to handle the bumps. The Alpine had quite a different setup. With a strong engine shortening the gear ratio was unnecessary and the Alpine still out accelerated all the other vehicles. The Fulvia had the next most powerful engine with the Mini coming in last in power by a significant margin. This means racing the Mini was a case of maintaining speed rather than accelerating out of the curves. The Alpine had a longer wheelbase which seems to help with handling bumps from the standpoint of maintaining the ability to steer. Unlike the other two cars, the engine for the Alpine was in the rear, which may explain some of the differences in handling. It certainly helped the rear wheels maintain traction allowing a slightly stronger differential setting. Still being on dirt, less differential action was needed.
Intense, interesting race that probably comes out somewhat different from what you expect.
