On Friday morning (February 4, 2022), a student reported an armed man at the Heinrich Böll Comprehensive School in Cologne-Chorweiler. A large police force was immediately dispatched, and fire and rescue services were also on standby near the school building. Police special units, including several special operations commandos, supported by officers from the riot police and patrol units, initially searched the Heinrich Böll Comprehensive School and later the adjacent Chorweiler Elementary School. At the same time, officers escorted the children out of the building class by class so that parents could pick them up at a designated meeting point. During the operation, police took a suspicious person into custody who was inside the school building. However, the person was quickly deemed not to be a suspect and was released.
