Indesign Text Wrap: Creative Flow vs. Design Disasters (Don't Make These Mistakes!)
To wrap text in InDesign, open the Text Wrap panel via Window - Text Wrap. Select the image or object, then choose a wrap type—commonly Wrap Around Bounding Box or Wrap Around Object Shape—and set offset values to control spacing.
Key Text Wrap Options:
Wrap Around Bounding Box: Wraps text around the rectangular frame of the object.
Wrap Around Object Shape: Wraps text based on the contour of the image (e.g., alpha channel, detected edges, or Photoshop path).
Jump Object: Forces text to skip to the top of the next column or below the object.
Jump to Next Column: Moves text to the top of the next column.
Tips for Better Results:
Adjusting Spacing: Use the offset values (top, bottom, left, right) in the panel to create space between the text and the object.
Handling PNGs/Images: Use "Detect Edges" or "Alpha Channel" for precise wrapping around irregularly shaped images.
Refining Shape: Use the Direct Selection tool to manually adjust the anchor points of the text wrap boundary.
Quick Activation: Use Cmd+Option+W (Mac) or Ctrl+Alt+W (Windows) to open the panel.
