Hypertension: The pressure is rising - Part 2 | Health one-on-one (with Marius Angeschrien)
According to a study, the number of people aged 30-79 with high blood pressure has doubled since 1990, reaching 1.3 billion worldwide. Even around five percent of children and adolescents in Germany have elevated blood pressure. Particularly problematic is the fact that 30 percent of those affected are unaware they have the condition. This is because arterial hypertension often progresses without symptoms for a long time. It is therefore all the more important to raise awareness of this widespread disease, as a large proportion of cases could be prevented.
Marius and Prof. Dr. Marcel Halbach, head of the arterial hypertension clinic at the University Hospital of Cologne, are taking to the streets together to ask passersby about high blood pressure: How many people in Germany suffer from high blood pressure? At what age can you be affected? Do you have your blood pressure checked by a doctor? Do you measure it at home? Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marcel Halbach, passersby have their blood pressure measured. Afterwards, sports scientist, personal trainer, and nutrition coach Moritz Groß gives Marius tips and tricks for a healthy lifestyle—ideally to prevent high blood pressure.
