Terex Jaques was recently featured in Australia’s Quarry magazine, highlighting a modular plant they designed to meet the needs of Sheridan’s Hard Rock Quarries, situated on the scenic Dorrigo Plateau in New South Wales, Australia.
The volcanic history of the plateau has resulted in high-quality basalt rock deposits, which when quarried, help to support local infrastructure projects. Graham Sheridan, owner of the quarry, has made it his mission to provide customers with superior basalt products, free of silica, to meet a diverse array of construction needs.
“We produce silica-free 5mm, 7mm, 10mm, 14mm, 20mm aggregate products to suit a wide range of applications,” he said. “The quarry also produces road base used for pavement construction for highways, gravel roads, road maintenance, and filling potholes. We can also provide finely crushed aggregate, which can be used for driveways, pathways, and gardens.”
After more than a decade of operation, the quarry's mobile crushing and screening equipment began to show signs of wear. Sheridan decided that instead of replacing it with new mobile equipment, he would install a fixed solution that could adapt to the quarry's evolving needs. A key factor in the decision-making process was a modular plant that would provide stability while allowing for easy relocation and assembly as the quarry expanded.
After considering various options, which Sheridan thought were too complex, he turned to Terex Jaques, well-known across Australia for their innovative solutions in the quarrying industry. What stood out to Sheridan was the simplicity and efficiency of their modular plant range. Pre-engineered, pre-built, and pre-tested, these modules offered a turnkey solution with minimal civil engineering and operating costs. Sheridan was also impressed at the flexibility offered by their ability to be transported in standard shipping containers or by road.
Close collaboration between Terex Jaques and Sheridan's Hard Rock Quarries was instrumental in designing a modular plant tailored to the quarry's specific needs. By considering product requirements and future capacity, the teams ensured that the solution would deliver optimal results while fitting within the available space.
The machines selected were a TG320 Cedarapids cone crusher with surge bin and pan feeder module, three Terex Cedarapids horizontal screen modules, a Terex Canica Model 100 VSI module and a radial stockpile conveyor with some other fixed conveyors to link the modules together.
When it came time for commissioning, service technicians from Terex Jaques worked hand-in-hand with Sheridan's Quarry staff to ensure a smooth transition and that the plant was producing high-quality aggregates at the desired throughput.
Strong communication between Terex Jaques and Sheridan's Hard Rock Quarries were critical to the successful installation of the modular solution. Sheridan highlighted the ease of assembly and the responsiveness of the Terex team in addressing any issues that arose, saying, “The modular construction made assembly easy and if we had any issues, or if something wasn’t quite right, Terex Jaques were good at making sure everything was fixed.”
Looking ahead, Sheridan's long-term vision for the plant is that it will stand the test of time, remaining to be a reliable cornerstone of the quarry's operations well into the future.
