Hi! Hello! Yes, before I upset any of you, please read this! I know that some of the things mentioned in this video can be offensive to authors, books and those who have read them. I would like to say that my intention in this video is to comically and lightheartedly talk about books that I didn't enjoy. I really hope I didn't offend anyone and if you loved these books, I really respect that. Not every reader has the same taste in books but their love for any book is still valid. As for further reasons to why I don't like these books:
ACOTAR:I didn't really connect to any of the characters at all but hey, it was Sarah J Maas so of course I had to read it. Then all the shit went down. Amarantha stole Tamlin, the whole court was a mess and human Feyre returned to save the day. Frankly, the plot was a little erratic and at this point, I didn't enjoy it. Then we have certain romanticised character doing questionable and in my opinion horrible things that don't get brought up as much as I thought they should. It was a problem in the book I couldn't look past.
THE SELECTION: If we look past the many plot holes in the original, first three books and the lack of communication, we come to the final two which I dont think were needed. As stated in the video, I dont understand how America and Maxem (or whatever) would put their daughter through it all? i know it's mentioned in the book that they don't want to change the world too quickly because it was upsetting the balance but it didnt sit well with me. I haven't finished the last book, nor will I so my opinion, is not entirely valid
BLACK ICE: Characters without depth, an unbelievable storyline and "plot twists" that make no sense at all. I could see so much potential for this book but it fell flat.
LADY MIDNIGHT: I fear that this is the one that will anger most people. Now when I call it trash, I mean like trash that everyone loves. I love trashy books and I am praying I will enjoy the rest of the books in the dark artifices series. However, Lady Midnight just wasn't. It was a book that as I read it, I enjoyed but the more I think about it, i don't. Emma is rewritten Will/Jace with lack of communication skills for someone who is her parabatai. I also felt that some of the plot devices in this were pretty bland and easy for a character to work around and yet they made it out to be the most complicated thing ever. HOWEVER, i will be continuing with this series because as I said, Clare is known for having sort of boring first books because they're mainly to set up the world, characters and plot for the rest of the series.
A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU: Just like Black Ice, this had so much potential. There were qualities of this book I really liked but the characters just didn't work for me. I couldn't feel any connection between the main characters at all and when certain scenes unravelled, it was mainly me eye rolling.
JOHN GREEN: The majority of these books were very. very slow. Yes he had some AMAZING one liners throughout them but beyond that, these books were pretty empty.
THE UNBECOMING OF MARA DYER: I...I really wanted to love this book. Truly. At the start, I did but as the book progressed issues popped up and I struggled man, struggled. It was a cliche book following many tropes that I disliked. Noah was definitely one of those tropes and i've heard he gets better, but not for me.
TALON: It was like a teen, love triangle story where they turn into dragons every once in a while. i have heard the other books get better but Talon was so slow and the characters I just couldn't connect with, unfortunately.
SOUNDLESS: It was slow. So slow. Insta love. 0 Plot. And an ending that was a little bizarre. If it was a series, I could see all the places it could go but for a stand alone...it was a little disappointing. The world building was very poor too.
OUR CHEMICAL HEARTS: This is another trope filled and typical YA contemporary book. It has the token gay characters, the comedic relief and then the main characters who i've read about in many other romance books. Yes, the ending does redeem it but a book needs to be better than just the last 60 pages.
TEARDROP: Firstly, the writing wasn't up to par. It made it that much harder to read. The characters (and considering this was a HUGE book) needed to be fleshed out. They were bland and boring and SPOILER love triangle.
IF you've read all that and still want more information on why, hit me up! I'm happy to talk about it. Please, consider that we may have varying opinions and I truly, don't mean to offend anyone.
