Ideally we’d move the object after we’re done all sculpting and symmetry stuff. But what happens if we don’t, or if we want to have it in its final position before we make symmetry changes?

Method 1:
(After the object is already off centre)
In symmetry, enable local symmetry to move symmetry axes to object
For rotation/ adjustments, turn on gizmo edit
Turn off gizmo edit when done, and make your symmetry changes

Method 2:
(Plan beforehand - save all gizmo moves to layer)
Put all gizmo movements on a layer: turn on gizmo vertex edit, and add layer.
Then move the object with gizmo. Gizmo changes are saved to layer.
Use layer slider to slide it back to the centre.
Add new layer. Make symmetry changes (eg painting etc) on this new layer.
Slide the visibility of the previous (gizmo) layer back.

(I think method 2 is generally great for isolating sculpting changes, because you can hide some and make others. And gizmo vertex is great in combo with layers, for saving movement to layers.)
