Prepping the Ultimate 3090 FE, or how to re-pad and shunt mod it
So its been a while but I am back and ready to sort out my RTX 3090 Founders Edtion, repadding it and installing a power shunt mod! The future plan for all this is going to be going into a watercooling loop which is going to be using the new Fractal Design Torrent so stay tuned for that too!
Disclaimer, doing any of this will in all likelihood Void your warranty, that said I do recommend changing thermal pads as it makes a hell of a difference to temperature on the 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM.
The Shunt mod however can make a hell of a difference to power usage and let you push some pretty high overclocks and voltage without running up against the power limit of the card.

For the thermal pads I recommend using these 1.5mm thick Thermalright Extreme Odyssey 12.8W/mK Silicone thermal pads, for a 3090 FE three of them worked for me with just a little bit to spare.

The Additional heatsinks and thermal tape I mentioned were these, COCOCITY 20mm by 25M roll of adhesive Thermal tape and these 40x40x20mm Aluminium Heatsinks.
