For hypothesis testing, we follow a step-by-step script:
1. State the hypotheses to be tested. Define the null hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis;
2. Based on statistical theory, take a statistic that will have a known distribution when the null hypothesis is assumed to be true.
3. Establish the significance level of the test, that is, the probability of rejecting H0 given that the null hypothesis is true; This probability corresponds to the probability of a type I error and define a critical region (rejection region).
4. Finally, based on the sample, considering H0 to be true, calculate the test statistic.
5. Conclusion: Based on the previous steps, verify if the statistical evidence is more favorable to the null hypothesis, that is, whether we should reject or not reject this hypothesis.
