Hey guys will come back. So in the last election we talked about the role of the project manager for a PM for short. Don't confuse that with product manager even though we use the same acronym pretty much all the time. One of the first responsibilities of the PM project manager is to get a product approved by developing the idea and pitching it to decision makers. So let's discuss what the project manager does during the initiation phase and how many projects are born. Now in many companies you can't start working on a project unless you've got permission. Some companies are stricter than others but generally if you want to undertake a project outside your usual list of duties you probably have to check with your boss and justify the reason. Like if you're a blog writer that wanted to start creating video content for your company you can't just go by the microphones Laini equipment and editing software to do it. You need to justify the expense and time by explaining its benefit to your team or company. Basically if you're going to devote company resources meaning people time money and any materials to working on some project you need to prove its value by creating a business case. This is a pitch that includes a clear description of the project you want to undertake. The needs this project will satisfy and benefits it should provide possible alternatives. You consider that are not as attractive. The estimated number of people time and cost required to complete it. Potential risks that you might run into that could keep you from completing the project on time or on budget and well some sort of research data and information that shows the end result should be worth the expense. Now with this information you are giving your decision makers all the information they need to approve the project. Depending on the complexity of your team or business you might have to develop a detailed business case in the form of a proposal or presentation or for smaller companies. Maybe all you have to do is send an email making the request. In either case be clear about the benefits costs and overall value of the project so you can get it approved. For example let's say your company is built a photo sharing app and you've been getting a lot of emails asking for help using its many different features. All these support requests are overworking the team. If you don't do anything it'll probably just get worse. So that is a problem that you might need to solve and losing customers is the primary risk that you might face by doing nothing. Now there are some options that you'd consider what say you could hire more support people but as the user base grows that really could get pretty expensive. Let's say you could also add help text within the app. But of course that would require additional work from writers designers and developers to make app updates and the developers are probably really busy right now. Probably too busy to even ask. Or let's say you could produce a series of videos some short videos could explain where new features live and how they work. You could host them for free on YouTube or just post them on your blog share them on social networks and even link to them directly from the app. Now after researching each of these options you just aren't producing a video series would be the best option for everyone involved so you start developing this idea. Let's say the project is to create a series of 10 short instructional videos each one just saying between one to two minutes long that promote and explain important features.
