Number Sense + How Many Ways?
This is the long version of the number talks we have at the beginning of the year around numbers and number sense.
In the classroom, it might not be this long all at once.
I guide the students through each number- we play with counters, I often ask them to come to the conversation with their observations about a number.
We explore:
-One to one correspondence
-representing the number in a number of different ways
odd or even
-a number of different types of algorithms
-how to get creative with numbers
-often we tell stories about the numbers to bring the numbers to life
