My Problem With Citation Requirements: A Mini Rant
Citation requirements? who's that? sounds high maintenance!
In all seriousness, of course I'm not against citation requirements as a concept, but rather I have a specific gripe with artificially constraining students to only cite papers published within a short recent timeframe. While more recent papers generally have a lot of advantages over older papers, there is a certain level of context one can only achieve by going back in the citation chain to the various landmark papers that set the theoretical stage for whatever topic you're researching now.
