NASA's Webb telescope has discovered an atmosphere on an exoplanet for the first time, giving us a better understanding of the kinds of worlds out there that could be capable of sustaining life.
Webb's infrared vision revealed the gas giant planet, which is about twice the size of Earth and orbits a sun-like star in the constellation Virgo. The planet's atmosphere is composed mostly of hydrogen and helium, with traces of oxygen, carbon, and other elements.
The newfound atmosphere gives us a valuable glimpse into the lives of these planets, and could even lead to the discovery of life on one of them.
Thanks, Webb!
