A musical and cultural phenomenon of the highest order, the Grateful Dead were and remain synonymous with Marin County since 1968. Dennis McNally (the band’s official biographer and long-time publicist) will explore the history of the band and its relationship with Marin County, their home both as a geographic place and a set of values. Featuring special musical guests Ted and Stuart Silverman.

DENNIS MCNALLY earned a Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts for his biography of Jack Kerouac, Desolate Angel. Jerry Garcia then invited him to be the Grateful Dead’s biographer. After serving as their publicist, he published A Long Strange Trip: The Inside History of the Grateful Dead. His study of race and American music, On Highway 61, won ASCAP’s Deems
Taylor/Virgil Thomson award.
