Scooters are involved in more than 4% of accidents with casualties | By
Personal Mobility Vehicles, such as electric scooters, are involved in 4.13% of accidents with victims that occur in urban areas, according to Formaster, the Professional Association of Training Companies in Logistics, Transportation, and Road Safety. For Formaster, it is becoming worrying that 2% of those killed in traffic accidents in Spain in the city were scooter riders, in addition to 4% of drivers seriously injured or requiring hospitalization, and more than 2,000 scooter riders with minor injuries.
In this context, the association has highlighted that the profile of the victim of a scooter rider in the city is a young man, between 21 and 34 years old, while the female victims were mainly between 18 and 29 years old.
Regarding violations committed on scooters and other Personal Mobility Vehicles, Formaster has detailed that 33.7% of accidents involving scooters or other Personal Mobility Vehicles in urban areas involved a traffic violation.
In this regard, he has specified that the most common violations are driving in the wrong direction, driving in a prohibited place, or invading the opposite lane, leading the way. 34.4% of violations; failure to respect right of way; speed limits; and failure to respect pedestrian crossings.
