How can we ensure the public has agency in delivering our national environmental commitments?
WildlifeDirect held an open space event on Wednesday, October 9th, 2019 to work with concerned citizens on creating a toolkit that will give any person agency in matters to do with wildlife and environmental protection.
The top five recommendations are;
1. Strict law and policy enforcement from government.
2. Behavioral change- there is an importance of encouraging our society to appreciate and nurture more environmentally conscious lifestyles from the basic household level and to the community at large towards sustainable development and practices. We need to ensure as we pursue commercial needs we protect the environment for posterity
3. Advocacy on the reduction of taxes levied and easing bureaucratic procedures involved in the import of modern equipment technologies involved in wildlife and environmental conservation
4. Introduce benefits sharing schemes between the government and the society. They can provide incentives such as motivating the people towards doing what is good. Also, there can be plow back of resources from the treasury to the development of the wildlife and the environment.
5. Dealing with corruption as a society we need to be the change and be informed on what is happening in our environment we should be able to speak up on illegal use of the environment and corrupt development schemes that lead to environmental degradation.
