This Inkscape tutorial demonstrates how to increase the size of the tool icons from small to large in the Inkscape window using Inkscape Version 0.92 - launched January 2017

When you upgrade Inkscape the settings revert to the default and
this means that the icons can be very small (particularly if the eyesight is going!).

Inkscape is not a bitmap editor, like Photoshop, but rather it is a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) editor. An advantage of SVG editors is that they allow images to be scaled without a loss of resolution (quality).

Inkscape will allow you to convert your created image into a PNG bitmap image, at the desired resolution, using the export function under the file menu.

The resulting PNG file can be used in web pages or read and modified using GIMP/Photoshop. Note however that once the image is converted to a bitmap image, a loss of resolution can occur if the image is resized.

Inkscape is an amazing program that is almost as good as Adobe Illustrator, but it is FREE!
