I was laid off in July of 2012. With three months severance and a ton of effort, I’m steadily chasing the things that make me happiest. While I’ve accomplished much, I am nowhere near my full potential...
One of the things that I’ve learned throughout my life is to find what motivates you and capitalize on that each and every day.
I didn't grow up with a camera in my hand. I didn't go to school to become a photographer. In fact, I dropped out of a degree in aerospace engineering to pursue a dream of climbing up the corporate ladder in NYC.
It wasn't until I was laid off from my job in 2012 that I would realize just how much photography made me happy. The reason I was able to make it a viable career is that I looked at it as a business and understood the value of what I offered potential clients.
If you're reading this wondering if it's possible to make a full-time living as a photographer - yes, it's possible, but it's also incredibly challenging.
You will have moments of self-doubt. You will have moments when your friends and family don't support your decision. You will fail. None of that matters. Focus on what matters: Your dreams, your mission, and your happiness, and your happiness.
