I have had my tank setup for a little over 2 months. I have bought some starter species based on the research I did online using the chichlid forums and clubs. I have a mixed tank of mbuna. They have all been in the tank for about 3-4 weeks. I wanted to stick to Lake Malawi but I bought one type from lake tanganyike by mistake before I knew much in the beginning. I have the following in my tank now. They were all bought from the local fish store except the two White top Afra, two Yellow Fin Mbamba and two Yellow Tail Acei I got from KGTropicals in King George Va. Good guy and a great place to get yor fish.. There is no sound for my first video but will add sounds later. This is not a biotope tank and is meant to supply lots of places to hide until I setup my other 125g display tank recently bought with another 55g for 75$. Good deal. I have a bunch of babies from a fish trade but I plan on only keeping four out of the twelve I got in the trade. I will try to trade for more females. Most are still not 100% sexable so they are all males until otherwise.
Fish List I plan to get 4-6 of each type. All but 6 were bought from Petco or Petsmart.
Bumble Bee (Maylandia Crabro) I think 1 Male and 1 Female.
Kenyi (Maylandia Lombardoi) I have 1 Male thats turning and 1 thats still blue. I got 12 babies that are to small in a trade.
Red Zebra (Maylandia Estherae) I have 4 of these and I think 1 is make for sure. Other three unsure.
Yellow Lab (Labidochromis Caeruleus) I have 4. I think I have 2 males for sure.
Yellow Tail Acei (Pseudotropdeus sp) I have 4 of these. I know I have atleast 1 male and 1 female. two others not sure. 2 were bought from a local dealer.
Golden (Melanochromis Auratus) I got 4 of these and 1 is dominant and turning black. I think I have 1 female too. Can't tell for sure.
Yellow Fin mbamba (Labidochromis sp) Got 2 of these from a local cichlid dealer. I am not sure f se but think 1 or both are male.
White Top Afra (Cynotilapia Afra) I got two of these and I am pretty sure both are males and they both show their colors but one is dominant.
Lab Hongi (Labidocrmis sp or Hongi caeruleus) I got 3 of these I think. I know two look like it and the 3rd was at a petstore as an afra but looks exactly like the Hongis I have. One has yellow on top and one has more of a redish top. Third is more yellow.
Electric Johanni ( Melanochromis johanni) I have 6 of these but only 4 of them were bought with the juvunile bland color they should be. 2 of them were pretty small and were already blue. I am not sure if they are hormone treated Johanni or Maingano cichlids sold as johanni.
Red Flame ( Red Tropheus) Got 2 of these to start but they were trying to kill each other. Thats when I found out they were colony fish and you are supposed to keep them in groups of 12. I added 3 more and they are fine now. They have a pecking order and they do not fight much at all.
The Overflow and refrigium were built using DIY videos. The over flow needs to be larger so I will move it orbuild a second one. The background is not done so excuse the many pipes. I am using a few extra filters on this tank to get them going for the other 125g thats not ready. I need to replace the top frame but it will cycle much faster with established filters and some borrowed sand.
I expect as the fish grow to have to move a few around as I try to get a 1 to 4 ratio of M to F. My second 125g will be a Hap and or Peacock tank. I will post that when it is up. Probably in a few months. I need to build the stand.
