Four-cameras and Club d'Elf. A set the crew from Actual Size Productions shot at the Lizard Lounge in March of 2020. A noteworthy evening because it was the last public event most of us attended before the COVID lock-down. MoFo Pictures was also in the house, armed and dangerous with an unholstered DSLR.
The first mix came back later that year. Then on New Year's Day 2021, team Mo-Pic took the bull by the horns, inserted the track, and started chopping. Basically, syncing and switching cameras as well as working in the rogue DSLR coverage. Note: nothing here was actually chopped out. Only the camera angles change. The performance runs real-time, all the way through. In other words, Club d'Elf ringleader Mike Rivard says, "we're going to start right now" and they do, for 92 minutes, straight! There's two or three non-sync insert shots and a few speed ramps to add a surreal visual slow-down in parts (or to cover funky camera movement) but it's 99% sync.
For the postproduction process this was a trance inducing, d'Elf infused, rabbit hole, with a 48-hour reentry to earth. Performance, rhythm, color grade… an endurance test. Version # 7 is a work in progress, but with a great new mix!
