Witnesses
Right before He ascended into heaven, Jesus gave His disciples one of his most important directives:
“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
This title launched the New Covenant era. In a polytheistic world, we are “witnesses” that there is one true and living God. In a world that often declares truth to be subjective, we are witnesses that one truth is the same for everyone. If we “witness” for God, He has made a commitment to “witness” for us—by supernaturally confirming the truth we share with a manifestation of His power.
There is a far greater depth to this title for God’s people than you might expect.
