HOT TRANSMISSION FLUID? TOYOTA 6 SPEED AB60 AUTO? 79 SERIES AUTO CONVERSION? LETS GET SERIOUS!!
I don't care if you have a 200 series or a 79 series cruiser (really!!). This video is for those of us who have a 79 series cruiser with the AB60 auto conversion + the PDI (Performance Diesel Intercoolers) front mount intercooler.
Bgr!! Reckon I just trimmed the viewing audience by at least 89%. But, you know what, this channel is not about that.
I'm documenting our trials and tribulations (travelling, cruiser whatever).
Not impressed with the #wholesaleautomatics solution to keeping transmission coolant temperatures reasonable I look far afield. Be real, what wholesale provided would be okay for "normal", probably, operations. But I want better.
At best, their tube and fin coolar might have had a coefficient of 15000btu but that is crap. Even towing our #AOR #Matrix a short distance (less than 140 kms) had temps reaching in excess of 100c. I'm not sure what their cooler they sell flor the 200 series is rated, I can't find a BTU rating, In any event it is/was not suitable fort the 79.
The moons and the sun coincided and about the same time I was getting the AB60 fitted I was already looking at cooling. I knew what #wholesaleautomatics was offering (I was paying for it) and I was looking at other sollutions.
What a fluke that PDI were developing a transmission cooler tab the same time, 45000BTU. Gotta say, the PDI kit looks FAR SUPERIOR to the wholesale solution. You reckon I might be wrong, watch the video.
I hasten to say, it's not about bagging wholesale automatics, it's about getting a result that is fit for "MY" purpose. I have shared this information with wholesale automatics (no response) and the local agent too (no response). I'm figuring that anyone with a 79 that wants an auto conversion and ALSO has the front mount intercooler should have all cooling options available!
Now, at the time of posting I cannot say what I have is better. Cause Ive only done town runs.
At the time of posting I plan to do a COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FLUSH to try and get some fluid consistency. I've done a pan swap and added fluid, I've done a cooler swap and added fluid. I have no idea what fluid was in the AB60 to start off with.
