Monisha grew up in a tough Los Angeles neighborhood and became a teen mom at just 14 years old. But against all odds, she went on to become valedictorian of her high school class and get her associate's degree. Monisha was working multiple jobs and saving money for her future, when she was shot.
Monisha was brought to California Hospital's Leavey Trauma Center and J. Thomas McCarthy Emergency Center, where physicians saved her life by placing her in a medically induced coma for six weeks so that they could perform multiple operations. Our trauma team had everything that Monisha needed — not just to survive, but to thrive.
