Video Description
Electrocardiogram of Atrial Fibrillation
The baseline is shaky, P waves are absent, and the RR interval is irregular. First, look for P waves. Check for f waves (fibrillation waves).
ECG of Atrial Flutter
There are no P waves and the baseline is sawtooth (sawtooth wave). The atrial waveform is regular and is called a flutter wave (F wave). The number and frequency of F waves are regular, and negative waves are usually seen in leads II, III, and aVf. Atrial flutter does not have P waves, but the rhythm is regular.
Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter are both arrhythmias caused by abnormalities in the atria of the heart. Symptoms include dizziness and lightheadedness, and in severe cases, fainting. While treating atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, it is important to also treat any underlying conditions that may be causing these conditions.
