Transfemoral approach (TF)
Transapical approach (TA), in which the valve is inserted from the apex of the heart
Transsubclavian approach (TS)
Direct aortic approach (DA), in which the valve is inserted from the ascending aorta
There are two types of prosthetic valves: Edwards' Sapien XT and Medtronic's CoreValve.
Edward's Sapien is balloon-expanded and placed. Medtronic's CoreValve is self-expanding.
