"Parents and Teens: Connections with Impact" was inspired by focus group conversations with Wisconsin teens, who consistently voiced a desire for open communication with their parents.
Interviewers sought to discover what aspects of parent-teen relationships contributed to teen success. A common pattern of influence emerged.
To influence someone, we need to impact two areas:
1)Their knowledge about the choice--through
INFORMATION we give,
EXAMPLES we set, and
EXPERIENCES that relate.
2)Their will to make the choice--by
communicating a positive ATTITUDE about their ability and character,
holding to RULES AND CONSEQUENCES, and
embodying the GRACE of staying connected.
This segment demonstrates the power of INFORMATION and EXAMPLES provided by parents.
