Professor Zarghami's keynote speech at the 18th National Congress of Chemical Engineering in Iran, held at Sahand University of Technology, Tabriz, Iran (9-11 October 2024)

CFD-DEM is a powerful tool for simulating fluid-solid interactions in chemical processes, such as fluidized beds and pneumatic conveyors. This method models fluids in a continuous Eulerian framework and particles as discrete Lagrangian elements. While computationally expensive, CFD-DEM's applications are expanding with increased computing power. The technique is versatile, with modifications allowing simulations of diverse processes like chemical reactions, coating, and drying. Continued research and development of CFD-DEM variants are crucial to optimize its use in various chemical engineering applications.
