Magnolia leaves the house and walks down the side walk a little ways so her mother wont suspect that she's ditching school today. Magnolia comes across the two signs, Havendish Square Road, which leads to Charolette's University, and the second sign which reads: CottonPuff Field Path, which leads her to her school. Magnolia glances behind her paranoidly, then takes the path to the University. But shortly after arriving, her plans of sneaking into Charlotte's dorm are shattered by a policeman who refuses to let her inside. Magnolia decided that she must sneak in later that night. While walking, Magnolia trips and is seen by a man with a suit and brief case. He asks if she is ok and tells her she should get to school when Magnolia notices a creepiness about him, and it turns out he is Michal Winterlake, Charlotte's English teacher. Magnolia turned without a goodbye, something about this guy freaked her out. She glanced behind her, just for a second, but it was enough to see him turn away quickly as if he just got caught staring. Magnolia arrives late at school and apologizes to her teacher. He says it's ok but there was a hint of compassion in his voice that shocked Magnolia. Since when did her teacher show compassion? Especially towards HER? Had he heard about Charlotte being missing? Magnolia starts to wonder things about Charlotte's dorm like the room number (which she needed to know to sneak into it) when the lunch bell interrupts her thoughts. She waited, like she always did, for everyone to leave so she could go last. It was her way of dodging people pushing her around, calling her names, trying to stick signs on her back. It was all immature, but it still hurt. But today another classmate, Hazel, invites her to lunch, apologizing for not standing up when she was bullied. Hazel grabs Magnolia's hand and leads her to the lunchroom, and towards a table in the back of the room. Sitting down, the two chatted over lunch, and Magnolia found herself slightly at ease. Charlotte blinked her eyes open slowly, she saw nothing, once her eyes adjusted to the dim light, but a small lamp hanging from the ceiling. It had three moths flying around it, with an ominous appeal about it. She tried getting up, but found that her arms and legs were bound to a hard lawn chair. The scrapes of her chairs legs against concrete floor echoed in the room. Charlotte stopped, getting the creepy feeling she wasn't alone. Charolette's heart sped up. Where was she? What was she doing here? Why HER of all people to be kidnapped? She needed to calm down, the last thing she needed was to panic. But though she tried hard, she couldn't calm herself. What was going to happen to her? Who was the other person she felt staring at her? Was she going to... die? She tried wiggling free of her restraints, only to make the chair moan and creak then tip backward, her head hitting against the floor. The little light in the room extinguished as her eyes closed and the throbbing head pain made her pass out. Meanwhile, Magnolia is saying goodnight to her mother when she asks for Charlotte's dorm number, which her mother says is 108, and leaves. Magnolia waited, running the plan through her head over and over. She waited a good hour knowing her mother would be in bed by then. She threw back the covers and put on her boots, already dressed for her sneak out. She tip toed to her door and peeked out. There was a light on. Strange... She also heard voices, a female voice (obviously her mother) and a male voice. One that was distinct, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. The conversation was between Crystal and ALEX, Magnolia's father that she hadn't seen for years! Magnolia overhears that her dad had a gambling problem, and that he never left; Crystal had kicked him out. Crystal lets Alex help out around the house with the bills and things since Charlotte was missing, but promised that he would be leaving when everything was over with. Magnolia, shocked, postpones the sneakout and goes to sleep, thought clouding her mind. That night, Alex puts a blanket over her after not seeing her for years, and goes back downstairs to look over the bills. Suddenly he gets a phone call, and a robotic voice says:

"I have your daughter."
