Routing Information Protocol (RIP)

Description: RIP is one of the oldest routing protocols that uses hop count as its routing metric. The maximum hop count in RIP is 15, and if a destination is more than 15 hops away, it is considered unreachable.
How it Works: RIP routers exchange routing tables with each other every 30 seconds. The metric used is the number of hops, with a maximum of 15 hops allowed.
Used in: Small to medium-sized networks, especially those that don’t require complex routing.
