Masquerade. Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov
Orthodoxy and Russian Literature. Meeting forty-seven.
Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov wrote "Masquerade" when he was quite young. When he began work on it, he was only 21 years old, having just graduated from military school and entered high society.
In "Masquerade," we see two themes: the theme of play (life is a game and we are all actors) and the theme of masquerade (the opportunity to don a mask). Thus, here we see one of the most important themes of world literature: to be or to seem.

The goal of the project is to instill a love of classical Russian literature in modern schoolchildren and young people.
The main message of the television project is that classical Russian
literature is not just a section in the curriculum of secondary and higher education.
First and foremost, it is an essential part of the civilizational code of our people, our national historical and cultural identity. By preserving and recreating it, the people perceive themselves as subjects of History, preserving their
authenticity through faith, culture, and the memory of generations of ancestors. With this understanding, the development of the state is understood as the result of a community
of peoples with a shared historical destiny.
One of the problems in teaching Russian literature is the
interpretation of works exclusively from a secular perspective, which
inevitably leads to a distortion of the author's intentions, superordinate goals, and
subtexts. It is crucial to convey to young people that the foundations of classical Russian
literature are: Orthodoxy, Scripture and Tradition,
Biblical Archetypes—what is commonly called the Christ-centeredness
of civilization and culture. The hosts of the "Orthodoxy and Russian Literature" television series use film adaptations to illustrate examples of literary text interpretations and subtexts, revealing their meanings.
Each episode is 26 minutes long, and there is no limit to the number of episodes. The program's genre and character are educational, analytical, and journalistic. The material is presented in the form of a dialogue.
