Alienation is a huge topic, with lots of different angles. We usually talk about alienation from things around us, but in this video, I argue that we are being alienated from much more than that. Our aspects of self are constantly being shaped by our environment, so what does it mean to say you are being your "true self"? We talk about philosophical theories of personal identity, and neurological theories of emotions & motivation. I take a lot of inspiration from Lisa Feldman Barrett and her work on "the constructed theory of emotions" from the book The Secret Life of the Brain. And David Hume's Bundle Theory of Identity.
