What a bad CV joint sounds like
This is the sound made by an outer CV joint when it is worn out. This is usually preceded by a torn CV boot, which allows the grease to escape. If the sound is louder when turning in one direction, the direction you are turning is the side of the car with the bad joint. For example, if it is loudest when turning left (as in this video) the left outer CV joint is the bad one.
