Are CDU, CSU, and ÖVP Destroying the Auto Industry and Sacrificing Climate Protection?
Friedrich Merz and the CDU, Markus Söder, and the ÖVP in Austria are using an attack on the EU's ban on new registrations of combustion engine cars starting in 2035 to boost their election campaign. In doing so, they are adopting the position taken by the AfD in the last European election campaign. This stance is not finding much support in the automotive industry. Experts in the sector warn that abandoning the ban on combustion engines will destroy the automotive industry. It will also make achieving climate protection goals impossible. One thing is clear: the future of the European automotive industry will not be decided in Europe, but in a completely different country.
