The Year is 1343, The City of Caffa is under siege by the forces of Janibeg Khan. The Italian defenders of Caffa are heavily outnumbered, but manage to hold the city's port open.
Finally a year later, an Italian relief force puts an end to the bloody siege.
However Janibeg did not take defeat easily and a year later prepares his forces for a renewal of the siege. The siege went on and rumors of a curse began spreading from both sides of the walls! A strange sickness from the east, was spreading...
The events that followed are considered by many... as the beginning of the Plague in Europe!
(Gabriele de’ Mussi was quite a controversial figure at the time, with some claiming that he never was at the Siege of Caffa. Sadly we don't have any other vivid accounts from the Siege of Caffa, so you should take all of de' Mussi's quotes with a grain of salt, like every other account of the past)
